1: The Grooves

The Grooves are a dynamic, high energy live variety and cover band. Pop, Country, Rock, Standards, Jazz, Disco, R&B, Oldies—they play it all. Available for weddings, private parties, corporate events, festivals, clubs—any event that needs great music and entertainment! This amazing musical group is extremely popular all across Texas. 2: ZZ Top

This little old band from Houston, Texas needs no great introduction as they have been making great rocking blues music since the late 60’s. They were inducted by Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004. When asked how they made themselves such a huge success from grass roots, they reply, “With taste, tone, and tenacity.” Still currently putting on great shows, this Houston, Texas power trio has still got it and rock the house to sold out shows. Not to be missed!

3: The Lonestar Bluegrass Band

This traditional and contemporary bluegrass band has been making a name for its self since 1982 and was voted “Best Bluegrass Band” in the Houston press music awards for 2002, 2003, and 2004. This great band features fiddle, mandolin, banjo, and acoustic guitar and stands up bass and layers its tunes with spot on harmony vocals. Catch this band and be swept away to visions of mountain streams and old country life as this band has as much fun on the stage as the audience does listening.

4: Clint Black

Clint Black currently resides in the Houston, Texas area and is one of the brightest stars of Country music with his traditional country songs that add a flare of pop and always appeal to the masses. With his first album he produced four straight Number One singles on the BillBoard Hot Country Singles and Tracks charts. Without a doubt one of the most influential Houston bands, Clint Black continues to pack houses and have great success in the Country music arena.

5: The Blaggards

This four piece Celtic Houston rock band blasts out authentic Irish rebel rock. This great novel Houston band is led by guitarist and singer Patrick Devlin who grew up in Dublin, Ireland listening to classic heavy metal such as Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden as well as Irish rock music. They have toured Nationally and were the only Celtic based act that performed at the South By Southwest Music Conference in 2008. A high energy rock band fills the room with energy, the Celtic overtones of this band shine through and are a rare treat to see live.

6: Fama

You can’t be from Texas without hearing a Tejano band playing their own take on the classic Conjunto style music from Texas. Fama is one of those Houston bands that follow along these lines with a string of hit albums in the mid 90’s. Since 1989 they have released a staggering 22 albums mostly signed to Discos CBS International which later became Sony Discos in 1992. Fama is now led by John Barraza and Eddie Dominguez and continues to tour and entertain crowds in Houston and across Texas.

7: Beyonce

Houston is home to Beyonce Knowles as well as the other members of her other band Destiny’s Child. Beyonce is the hit R&B singer/songwriter heard on Radio stations across the nation and has expanded her career to include being a record producer as well as an actress and model. Beyonce got her start with the band Destiny’s Child in the 1990’s and in 2005 went solo to grace her fans with her smooth R& B vocals and garner herself 10 Grammy awards nominations. In 2009 she was awarded Billboard’s Top Female Artist of the decade.

8: Chris Whitley

The late Houston rock/blues man Chris Whitley received moderate mainstream success with his unique blend of acoustic, electric guitar and modern sound. He was influenced by Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf and Bob Dylan and succeeded in becoming one of the very influential Houston bands during his reign from 1991 to 2004. He worked with many mainstream musicians and famed greats as Bruce Hornsby and Dave Mathews were featured on his 2001 album "Rocket House."

9: D.R.I

This popular Houston band never made any real ground with the mainstream audience but helped to create the sound known as crossover thrash metal. Also known as the Dirty Rotten Imbeciles, their hay day was from 1987 to 1996 but they have been gearing up to start playing shows again after a long period of inactivity in the studio from 1997 to 2005. This crossover style of thrash combined elements of heavy metal music with punk rock styles. They have released 7 studio albums so far and have an eight reportedly on the way.

10: Houstonian Big Band

The Houstonian Big Band is one of the more popular big bands in Houston featuring a 12 piece orchestra and performs music from the 30’s, 40’s, and 50’s such as Tommy Dorsey, Harry James, Glenn Miller, Count Basie and other greats from the golden big band era. This band brings its own conductor following classic big band structure and even includes a female vocalist. Swing the night away with your special someone with this great big band which has over 300 selections of classic swing music.

11: Red Young

Red Young is Houston's Bluesy, Jazzy style musician who has been around for a coon's age and is quite the jack of all trades being competent as a pianist, composer, and producer to name a few. You can catch him in the Houston Club scene where he's been entertaining music lovers for decades.
